‘Metal Planet’ by David A Hardy. Painted in 1974 before Star Wars. I’ve been admiring this painting ever since I spotted it in Future magazine in 1978. Thirty four years later I contacted the artist in the slim hope the original painting might be available for sale. Alas, Mr Hardy sold it years ago. © David A. Hardy astroart.org

‘Lost.’ I painted this in 1990, in a mad late night session. There’s no doubt it is badly painted but its amazing how much I didn’t worry about that at the time. I didn’t even have to try…I just stood in front of the canvas and out it splurged. I wish I could do that these days.

I painted this in 1990 after a trip to Moonlight Heads along the Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia where we drank beer, told ghost stories and slept on gravestones in the old cemetery. Moonlight Heads then was just a large open area of scrub on a cliff top overlooking the ocean. It had a charming old cemetery and that’s about all. Soon it will be this
