1966 Dr Who movie Daleks Invasion Earth 2150. Looks much more exciting than it actually was. Poster from Starburst Magazine 1978-1980

Another brilliant 1960’s Dalek comic strip from TV Century 21 magazine. Note the Dalek flying saucer, no doubt influenced by George Adamski’s infamous flying saucer photos of the 1950’s. Nice to know the basic Dalek saucer design has been retained by the producers of the current Dr Who series.

Another fabulous Dalek illustration from ‘Doctor Who and The Daleks Omnibus’ (1976). The artwork is credited to the ‘General Illustration Company.’ More illustrations from the book are here.

In the 1960s at the height of ‘Dalek mania’ the Dalek comic strip appeared in the weekly magazine TV Century 21 which was produced mainly to promote the shows of Gerry Anderson (Thunderbirds, Fireball XL5, Stingray etc)

Spectacular cover of the German edition of Doctor Who: Dalek Invasion of Earth novel. Much more exciting than the UK/Australian edition in my opinion. Painted in 1975 by David Hardy.

Very excited by these images from the upcoming Series 7 of Doctor Who. Unfortunately I can see a few of those awful out of proportion coloured Daleks. Hopefully they will be …exterminated. Full trailer here

Looks like this might literally happen in the upcoming Series 7 of Doctor Who. I hope not, though. Doctor Who’s success was built on the Daleks and Dalekmania of the early 1960’s.

Artwork by Roy Knipe. Taken from the book Death To The Daleks published in 1978.

More of my childhood Doctor Who drawings. A large part of my life growing up in the 1970s revolved around Doctor Who which screened nightly at 6.30 in Australia. I think I’m still recovering from it.

I was recently reminded by an old school friend of a book I owned and loved as an adolescent but had long forgotten about: Doctor Who and The Daleks Omnibus (1976). It is filled with spectacular artwork by the ‘General Illustration Company.’

In the late 1970s and early 1980’s I drew pictures for a Doctor Who fanzine produced by a group of friends but most of my drawings were never used. Damn it, I slaved over those drawings.
