My well read edition of 2001 A Space Odyssey. This book has traveled with me through space and time since about 1979.

This poster by Mike Kaplan was produced for the relaunch Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1970, after which the film finally found its audience and became a cult classic.

Prelude To Space (Arthur C Clarke) 1970’s cover art by Stanislaw Fernandes.

Pre-production artwork by comic artist Neal Adams for the 1970s movie adaptation of Childhood’s End by Arthur C Clarke. It was never filmed. This artwork is taken from Starlog magazine #42, 1979. Hello V and Independence Day.

Michael Whelan’s fantastic artwork for the equally fantastic Arthur C Clarke novel The Songs Of Distant Earth (1985).

I’ve been admiring this Tim White painting since 1977 when I was given Expedition To Earth by Arthur C Clarke of which it is the cover artwork. I later used it (under license from the artist) as the cover art for one of my albums.

I recently reacquired this book I first had as a child. It was one of Arthur C Clarke’s early scientific books and I hardly understood a word of it but at least I had these beautiful images to look at.

The Exploration of Space by Arthur C Clarke, Temple Press, 1952

This image is one of the most enduring of my childhood. I’d spend hours staring at it, completely enthralled by its strange grandeur. The illustration is by Leslie Carr and was in Arthur C Clarke’s speculative book ‘The Exploration of Space’.
