As books for young readers this series was pretty disturbing what with grafted scull caps, child slavery, post-apocalyptic themes and other such fun. Needless to say this young reader found them very exciting back in the day.
Funky advertisement for film version of Erich von Däniken’s massive best seller Chariots of the Gods. The book was an ‘examination’ of evidence of extraterrestrial influence on ancient earth cultures. I was never sucked in by von Däniken’s schtick. It was just too stupid even for a gullible child like me. Every rock carving figure with a round head was a spaceman. Every long straight line in Peru became flying saucer landing strip (as if they needed one!) Most annoying was his way of avoiding explanations by ending almost every paragraph with an question. This paragraph has come to an end. Why? What are the gods trying to tell us?
