Steve R Dodd “Post Conflict” - previously unpublished.
Last year I posted a painting by Steve R Dodd scanned from a 1981 copy of Future Life magazine and it became my most re-blogged post. It encouraged me to find out more about Steve but his internet presence was sparse.
To my surprise I was contacted by his sister Kay who wanted to let me know about Steve’s work and achievements. In the early 1980s Steve painted for classic science fiction magazines Starlog, Future Life and Omni as well as numerous book covers in Europe. He exhibited with Greg Hilderbrandt (famous for one of the best of the original Star Wars posters) and received a commendation from Arthur C Clarke.
Steve was on the edge of breaking through, but several things came up to alter his life and he dropped out of the book art publishing scene. He rarely paints, does not sell his paintings, and has an enormous body of work in storage.
Thanks to Steve’s generosity, over the coming days and weeks I will be posting a number of his works, many of which have never been seen in public before.

The Story of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi vinyl record. I was too old to enjoy this when it first came out and only just bought it recently.
Vinyl record soundtrack for Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979) and my all time favourite soundtrack. Jerry Goldsmith at his peak.
Forbidden Planet vinyl record soundtrack. A beautiful avant guarde electronic soundtrack by Louis and Bebe Barron, way ahead of its time.
Vinyl record soundtrack to The Black Hole (1979) and a good example of the soundtrack being better than the movie!
Tim White - Ring Around the Sun, 1977
